Welcome to the new VBSFusion newsletter.

VBSFusion is undergoing some big improvements and as part of that, we have introduced this newsletter to better communicate what is happening in the world of VBSFusion. Every few months we will be letting you know what is new, what is coming up and also providing tips and tricks on using the API.

VBS2Fusion User Guide

The VBS2Fusion user guide has been completely revamped. The new structure incorporates the many changes which have been made to the API and VBS2 over the past 4 years. This new document is composed of three primary sections:
  • Introduction – Contains all information related to new users of the VBS2Fusion API. This includes information on file composition, installation, licensing, execution and deployment.
  • Example Descriptions – Contains a detailed description of each VBS2Fusion example distributed with the VBS2Fusion installation.
  • Programming Guide – Contains a thorough description of all concepts necessary to write a VBS2Fusion plugin for VBS2. This includes sections describing callback functions and all data and utility classes. This section also contains discussions on the structure of an acceptable VBS2Fusion plugin and the conditions necessary for the plugin to be loaded and executed by VBS2. Extended tutorials are also added to describe more complex functionality.
The new user guide will be available on your system when you install VBS2Fusion 2.15. Alternatively, this document is available online:

pdf           chm         online

The VBS2Fusion Code Reference has been regenerated using a new commenting structure.  Currently, this covers the major classes, with all classes to be covered over the coming months.  The Code Reference will be available on your computer after you install VBS2Fusion 2.15. Alternatively, this document is available online:

  chm         online
Code comments have been changed for most of the primary classes. The comments within the remaining header files will be changed and released in the next release of VBS2Fusion.

A collection of new functions are available with VBS2Fusion 2.15. From this version onwards, new functionality will be introduced to VBS2Fusion users through comprehensive tutorials, examples and demonstrations.

Function name Description Demo Docs Example
Geometry Export Access the geometry of any loaded VBS2 terrain at run-time through a set of tagged vertices, edges and faces
Draw Brush Select and color areas within the VBS2 terrain at mission RT using the mouse. Drawn areas will hug the terrain.
Virtual Input Device Allows easy linking of external hardware or software to VBS2 to control common operations or actions within VBS2
Frustum Access information on the VBS2 frustum or current viewpoint at run-time
Joystick Control Easily link external joy-sticks to VBS2 to control entities within the RTE
Joint Utilities Join two VBS2 vehicles to each other programmatically

VBS2Fusion version numbers have been revised to better reflect the version of VBS2 it is compatible with. From VBS2 2.15 onwards, the version number of the compatible VBS2Fusion version will be identical to that of VBS2. For instance, the compatible version of VBS2Fusion for VBS2 2.15 will be VBS2Fusion 2.15.

A new version of VBS2Fusion will be released for each new version of VBS2.  Backward compatibility will be maintained between all versions of VBS2Fusion.
