Use Cases

Integration

  • Integration with external hardware. Eg: Simulated weapons, sensors
  • Integration with external systems. Eg: C2 Systems
  • Integration with non-DIS capable simulations
  • Integration with external simulations where more detail is required than HLA/DIS provides. Eg: Integration of simulating weapon turret motion to a high level of fidelity or simulating the morale of troops
  • Integration with external simulators. Allowing VBS2 to be used as the visualization for a simulator. Eg: AFV simulator, weapons simulator, artillery simulator

Entity Control

  • Creating an external system which is capable of controlling entities, with a more compressive user interface than VBS2 provides. For example:
    • External artillery Call-For-Fire interface (eg VBS2Fires)
    • C2 interface to quickly control groups of entities
    • Vehicle controls to more intuitively fly a plane/helicopter or drive a vehicle
    • Control of convoys
  • Visualization and control of VBS2 mission state via graphical user interface (GUI)

Fidelity Improvement

  • Used to improve the fidelity (level of simulation detail) of certain aspects of the VBS2 simulation. For example:
    • Flight dynamics
    • Ballistic motion
    • Damage effects of certain munition types
    • Vehicle behaviour
    • Physics simulation
    • Entity motion
  • Integration possible with external middleware products. Eg: Havok

Improved Visual Feedback

  • Creation of Heads Up Display (HUD) for VBS2 missions

Artificial Intelligence

  • Control of entity behavior to replace or supplement the VBS2 AI engine
  • Creation of a plug-n-play AI framework to allow an AI entity to have many profiles which can be ‘swapped’ within the same scenario, in order to highlight the effect of different enemy courses of action
  • Development of improved vehicle convoy behaviour
  • Integration possible with external AI middleware products. Eg:
    • CoJACK
    • XAITMENT

After-Action Analysis

  • Record and capture richer data set about a simulation scenario than currently possible
  • Output captured data to spreadsheet or database format
  • Data mining of AAR data to identify hidden trends in a scenario
  • Generation of graphs, charts and reports based on AAR data
